Figure ground perception is the ability to pick one shape or object out of a busy background: finding the keys on a cluttered counter, a name in a directory, or one jar in a full pantry. After a neurological injury this filtering can take real effort, and in adult rehabilitation settings printable worksheets are often used to practice it in a structured, repeatable format.

What is a figure ground task?

Each worksheet shows one or more targets at the top of the page, then a visually busy field below: overlapping shapes, or a detailed realistic scene. The person scans the field and finds every instance of the target. The format engages selective attention and visual discrimination alongside figure ground perception, and because responses are mostly pointing and circling, it stays accessible when writing is difficult.

Grading: from simple to complex

In practice, visual perception tasks are often most useful when they are graded rather than one-off. Our set moves through three levels:

• multiple option worksheets: find which options contain the target shape, with clean outlines and limited clutter
• scenic worksheets: find listed objects hidden inside detailed, realistic scenes, like the free sample above
• shape counting worksheets: count every instance of overlapping shapes, the densest and most demanding format
